Whether you're commuting into the city for some culture, or you're a London local, here are just a few of our fav north London haunts for a proper roast dinner (and a hair of the dog tipple).
The Baring
📍55 Baring Street, London, N1 3DS A neighbourhood pub cooking simply and sustainably in the heart of Islington. This renovated pub may look unassuming in its residential setting, but there's more than meets the eye. Expect hearty plates, perfectly balanced flavours, seasonal fair and uncluttered dishes. Prepare for gastropub pricing (but trust us, it's worth the price-tag!).
The Drapers Arms
📍44 Barnsbury St, Islington, London, N1 1E A cosy, warm, friendly and bustling setting. A slap-up Sunday roast using that never fails to deliver. Wash it down with an equally impressive bottle of wine (or two).
Bull & Last
📍68 Highgate Rd, London NW5 1QS Voted one of the UK's best gastropubs, it has the vibe of 'your local', but with far better pub grub. Its menu offers twists on pub classics, with an extensive Sunday lunch menu. Don't forget to try one of their legendary Scotch eggs!
The Clarence Tavern
📍102 Stoke Newington Church Street, London N16 It may not be your classic Sunday lunch (hold the Yorkshire puds) but you certainly won't leave disappointed. Expect very generous British and European 'small plates' with impressive flavour and flair. The Clarence is a sibling pub to The Anchor & Hope in Waterloo and Canton Arms in Stockwell, as well as The Magdalen Arms in Oxford.
Bellanger
📍 9 Islington Green, London N1 2XH Anna's self-professed fav haunt in Islington. Again, this isn't your classic Sunday roast – but that needn't matter once your sat inside this impressive setting: high ceilings with ornate cornicing, classic French red leather brasserie banquette seating, dark wood panelling, artwork and antique brass details. Mediterranean-inspired cooking with regional flavours and classic dishes. There's something to cater to every taste or dietary requirement. Also, super reasonably priced!
