When the temperatures rise, our furry friends need a little extra help staying cool – and what better way than with a homemade frozen treat made just for them? These treats are packed with dog-friendly ingredients like juicy strawberries, sweet carrots, and creamy Greek yoghurt. They're not only refreshing but also a healthy way to reward your pup on hot days. With just a few simple steps and optional add-ins like mint or apple for an extra flavor boost, this recipe makes approximately 20 small, tail-waggingly good treats. Perfect for cooling down after a walk or just because...
*Makes approx. 20 small treats*
🐾 Ingredients:
• 145g fresh strawberries (hulled and chopped)
• 1 medium carrot (peeled and finely grated)
• 1 ripe banana (peeled)
• 115g plain Greek yoghurt (unsweetened, no artificial sweeteners like xylitol)
• 50–60g water (optional, for consistency)
🍏 Optional add-ins (choose one):
• 1 tbsp chopped fresh mint (great for breath)
• 1 tbsp finely chopped apple (core and seeds removed)
🧑🍳 Instructions:
1. Prepare your ingredients:
Wash strawberries and hull them.
Peel and grate the carrot.
Peel and break the banana into chunks.
2. In a blender or food processor, add strawberries, grated carrot, banana, yoghurt, and water (if using). Blend until smooth but not watery – a thick smoothie consistency.
3. Pour the blended mix into silicone ice cube trays, small cupcake moulds, or dedicated dog treat moulds. Fill each section about ¾ full to allow for expansion when freezing.
4. Place in the freezer for at least 4 hours or until solid.
5. Ready to serve – pop one out and give to your dog as a cool summer treat! You can keep remaining treats in an airtight container in the freezer for up to 1 month.
🐶 Tips:
• Always introduce new foods slowly and in moderation.
• Ensure your yoghurt is xylitol-free (a sweetener that is toxic to dogs).
