Read on for a recipe from It's a Dog's Life client, Sally (also mum to Pepper), for dog-friendly dumplings!
From Sally:
To make the dumpling skin, I use rice flour and water, but normal flour would also be fine. If not, you can just buy dumpling skins from Asian supermarkets (all fine in moderation for pups). This recipe will make 20 dumplings and you can freeze them!
For the filling:
150g ground protein of your choice (turkey, pork, beef or chicken)
Parsley (handful)
Half a carrot (shredded using a grater)
Pinch of turmeric
Quarter of cube of tofu from Naked Tofoo
Method: Put the mince, chopped up parsley, shredded carrot, a pinch of turmeric, and crumbled tofu in a bowl and mix well. Start putting the filling onto the dumpling skin and fold. If you have a foldable vegetable steamer, brush a thin layer of coconut oil so the dumplings don’t stick. Lay out the dumplings apart so they don’t stick and steam for about 10 minutes on low heat. Make sure to put a clean cloth between the pot and the lid so the water doesn’t drop onto the dumplings whilst cooking. Keep checking to make sure it’s cooked thoroughly. You can stick the skewers in and if it comes out clean, it should be fully cooked.
To serve, make sure the dumplings are cooled enough. And if you don’t want to cook all of the dumplings, they freeze extremely well. Pop them into a ziplock bags and freeze! You can steam, boil or fry them.
